Anthony finished his Championship in 2004, and went on to win several Specialty Bests of Breed. At the Collie Club of America specialty he won Select Dog in 2012, and Awards of Merit in 2006, 2010, 2013, and Stud Dog Class in 2008, 2012 ,2013. In 2007 he was #9 Hawkins system.
Anthony's story was featured in the CCA Bulletin where his owner Barbara Cleek (Lochlaren Collies) shared her experiences of his puppyhood ...
"In early 2003, I was actually looking for a girl when I contacted Nancy McDonald about a puppy. A close friend and I wanted to buy a bitch to show and incorporate into my line. I thought the last thing I would be interested in was another boy. A few weeks earlier I had whelped a litter and fell promptly in love with a beautiful tri boy, naming him “Tony” from birth…but as luck would have it he was the only one in the litter with colobomas. When Nancy told me she had a promising tri male puppy that she knew I would love; beautiful expression, full muzzle, flat skull, bone, coat, and angulation, I couldn’t resist, especially when she told me his sire was Bowen Island AND his name was “Anthony”, it was meant to be. I had been able to go over Bowen Island before his class first at the 2001 Louisville CCA. His head and expression were exactly what I was looking for, and in Winner’s class, for me, he was the only one there. Unfortunately the judge didn’t see it that way, but I didn’t care…I wanted a Bowen puppy!
Mr. Incorrigible arrived as a 12 week old, everything Nancy had promised…plus! My good friend, Jackie Morfitt, helped raise him. Not the easiest task, as he was a handful! Our first major hurtle was his drooling in the car. He wore a t-shirt whenever we took him to a match or training class. One day Jackie had an invite for a puppy play date, her SUV was unavailable, and the only car was her husband’s Jaguar with leather seats front and back. Ignoring that she might be faced with a divorce soon, she took off with him loose in the back seat. Not one drop of drool…pure class! He never got car sick again. Unfortunately he could not keep his jaguar! As a puppy we took him to a few shows, winning Sweepstakes and his first Specialty major under Nioma Coen. The rule showing him was simple…never make eye contact! That worked most times, but I think my collie buddies enjoyed the drama of what might happen to me in the ring with him; at least judging from their chuckling at ringside, many of the judges did not know the rule! Whenever possible, Jackie’s husband power-walked him 5 miles the morning of a show.
His Herding Instinct test is another good example of what mattered most to him. We were testing with ducks in a large arena ... the ducks were terrible, not keeping together, and dog after dog tried with little success to herd them. Anthony’s turn came and he walked into the ring with his usual confidence. He saw the ducks and went toward them; they quickly flocked together and ran to the far end of the arena, with Anthony close behind. The ringside clapped and cheered, finally a dog that could control them! Anthony hearing the applause, immediately left the ducks and paraded back and forth in front of his audience, tail wagging, loving the attention, which of course egged everyone on. Meanwhile the ducks huddled together frozen in the far corner while Anthony played the crowd…the tester howled with laughter. Of course he didn't pass but Anthony was in his element! Honestly though, he really did eventually calm down and became a real gentlemen, but I love to see that joie-de-vivre he passed on to his children.
